The showing of the documentary is organized in honour of one of the most important Latin American architect, Oscar Niemeyer, who died just ten days before celebrating his 105th birthday, on December 5, 2012.
The Oscar de Almeida Ribeiro Niemeyer Soares Filho (December 15, 1907 – December 5, 2012) is considered to be one of the key figures in the delopment of modern architecture.
The film uses the clarity of its lines and poetic forms to (re) construct the story of the greatest icon of Brazilian Modern Architecture, a man whose story is inextricably linked to a century of change.
The documentary shows how Niemeyer revolutionized Modern Architecture with the introduction of the curved line and the exploration of new ways to use reinforced concrete. Niemeyer also speaks about his life, his ideal of a just society and metaphysical questions, such as the insignificance of man in the Universe.
The film was shot on digital video 16mm, in Brazil, Algeria, France, Italy, USA, Uruguay, England and Portugal. It contains rare and unpublished archival images. Speak also the writers José Saramago, Eduardo Galeano e Carlos Heitor Cony, the poet Ferreira Gullar, the historian Eric Hobsbawn, the director Nelson Pereira dos Santos, the former President of Portugal Mário Soares and the composer Chico Bouarqe.
