The DESTE Foundation in collaboration with the Benaki Museum present an exhibition-tribute to the oeuvre of Greek visual artist George Lappas(1950-2016). A selection of his recent and largely unknown works attempts to highlight certain aspects of his quests and correlate the spectrum of his cultural references with the historical context of the Museum.

The title of the exhibition refers to a series of Lappas’ sculptures which are inscribed as ‘Happy Birthday’.  George Lappas was one of the most important Greek sculptors of the twentieth century. The huge appeal of his work and the fascinating depth and breadth of his research as it is reflected in the space of his studio were the inspiration behind the presentation of this show, whose narrative is guided by a rich material as it was archived by the artist’s wife, the sculptor Aphrodite Liti.
