This book was published to mark the exhibition of the architectural oeuvre of Constantinos Dekavallas at the Benaki Museum, in October 2008. C. Dekavallas was born in Athens in 1925. He studied at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens (N.T.U.A.) (1948); at Columbia University, New York (1953); and the University of London (1956). On returning to Greece he worked at the Ministry of Public Works, as head of the Reconstruction of Santorini (1956-1969). He was subsequently architect for the National Bank of Greece (1960-1969), while in tandem, from 1960 to the present day he has run his own architectural and design practice. In 1980 he was elected a professor of the N.T.U.A. School of Architecture. The catalogue includes 74 projects and designs, from 1952 to the present day, some of which were carried out, others which were never built, and includes photographs, designs, sketches and a short description of each project undertaken by the architect. To be specific, the catalogue presents: 7 early works; 15 planning, developmental designs and tourist projects; 9 cultural projects; 16 urban buildings and banks; 9 revisions and additions to existing buildings; 1 industrial space; and 17 single family dwellings. The catalogue includes an introduction by Angelos Delivorrias, director of the Benaki Museum and the texts were written by Savvas Kontaratos, architect, and Constantinos Dekavallas.
