19th century photographs

The collection of original photos from the 19th Century was created by donations and purchases.

This section includes, among other things, 44 photographic illustrations of monuments of Greek antiquity British photographer-traveler James Robertson shot in 1853-54, downloads of French architect Alfred-Nicolas Normand immortalized the Acropolis and the surrounding antiquities of 1851, focusing on abandoning what they were because of the long Ottoman rule, the surveying of Corfu by Italian professional Bartolomeo Borris and the portfolio of Albert Meyer, the official photographer of the German shipping Ms. s their first Olympics in 1896 in Athens.

 

In this collection there are also rare items (original photographs and albums) of the famous Greek photographers of the time, who with their work laid the foundation for the flourishing of Greek photography, such as Philip Margaritis, Dimitrios Konstantinos, Petros Moraitis and the Romanes Brothers.
