The Benaki Museum received a Prize for Excellence as well as an Honorary Distinction for Best Practice for its successful implementation of information technology culture projects undertaken in line with the Operational Programme Information Society, part of the Third C.S.F. 2000-2006.

The award was given by the Special Secretariat for Information Technology Planning along with the Managing Authority for the Operational Programme "Information Technology Convergence”, in an event that took place on March 31, 2009 at the Pallas Theatre. The purpose of the prizes for excellence is to recognise the agencies that perform well in implementing projects, in order for these to serve as models to others.
The award was received, on behalf of the institution by the President of the Museum Board of Trustees, Mrs. Aemilia Geroulanou.
