The “Friends of the Benaki Museum” will start their second half-century of activities by organising a musical evening: “The neighbourhoods of Poets”, with music by Pigi Lykoudi.
The date on which this will be held – February 27th 2008 – has set the title and the programme for the evening. Sixty-five years ago, on February 27th, Kostis Palamas, “virtuous and modest” poet, passed into history, became part of Greek history.
“The neighbourhoods of Poets” will include a poem by Kostis Palamas set to music, as well as poems by Odysseas Elytis, Lefteris Papadopoulos and Yiannis P. Ioannides, set to music, and instrumental pieces composed by Pigi Lykoudi.
The songs will be interpreted by Alexandros Hatzis, Agni, Penny Xenaki, Iraklis Zakkas, Nikos Karakalpakis and Amerissa, backed by a five-member band, with the composer at the piano. Poetry will be recited by Dimosthenis Ambrazis.
