This colloquium takes place in tandem with the exhibition of the same name and will include talks by Greek and American experts. The talks will enter into an evaluation of creative archaeological photography in archaeological research and teaching; the artistic impulse in relation with reality and archaeological documentation; the more general image of Greece through photographs of archaeological sites and monuments; the dissatisfaction visitors expressed about the ancient ruins in the 19th century and the start of the 20th century, as well as the ways, means and attempts of photographers to communicate their emotion and what they see when depicting antiquities.
The talks will be followed by a discussion and a visit to the exhibition.
