The Hour of the Last Supper by Philippos K. Tsalahouris - Yiorgos K. Psaltis
Liturgical drama for voices, organ & percussion
FROM 31/03/2012 - TO 01/04/2012
The piece The Hour of the Last Supper transposes into a contemporary mindset the earth-shaking instants of the Last Supper Jesus shared with his disciples, which defined the concept of love and the significance of fear and betrayal.

The performance returns to the form of a liturgical drama, or passion play, which appeared in the 10th century, and was particularly popular up to the 17th century in Greek regions with a strong Frankish element (mainly Crusader, Venetian, Genoese), such as Crete, Naxos, Syros and Chios.
At that time liturgical dramas were used to imbue Christian stories to their viewers. Today, the meaning of Jesus’s teaching is brought to life through the libretto by Yiorgos Psaltis, set to a score by Philippos Tsalahouris.

The premiere performance of this play will be held at the Main Building of the Benaki Museum.
One plus twelve singers around a table, surrounded by the audience observing them. There will be a chorus of angels and the sound of organ and percussion.
