The concert is a tribute to French composer
Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924), one of the major composers of his generation, whose musical style influenced many of the composers of the twentieth century.
The
Athens Singers are a historical choral group, currently celebrating their 47th anniversary, who chose to honour this great composer, interpreting works that fit the spirit of the days.
Specifically, the programme will include:
Cantique de Jean Racine, Opus 11, wrote by Fauré at 19 years of age, for which he received a grand prize; the
Messe Basse;
Dolly Suite for piano à quatre mains; the
Μaria Mater Gratiae; and the
Requiem, one of the composer’s most renowned works.
