When Indian music meets rebetiko

When Indian music meets rebetiko
FRI 24/05/2013
The musical group ICHOR will provide a musical evening of old rebetika songs, taking on new nuances with the melodies and sounds of the sitar, which bring the songs to life without preserving their core essence.
A novel experience, which reveals how close two such wide-apart musical traditions can be. The rich sound of the sitar from India is hard to match with anything besides the traditional sounds of Indian music. Rebetiko music, however, has it’s own particular nature and its links to the melodies of Byzantine music allow this unusual pairing.
The programme is further enriched by compositions with music and lyrics written by Dimitris Roumeliotis and songs using poetry by Nikiforos Vrettakos, influenced by elements of Indian music.

Participants:
Dimitris Roumeliotis, sitar and voice
Giorgos Mylonas, violin and tzouras
Nikos Souliotis, percussion

Duration: 180 minutes with intermission.

The museum will be open to visitors for an hour before the start of the concert and for the duration of the intermission.
