In recent decades, the dialogue between different approaches to the study of human society has constantly gained ground. Economics, political science and history are among disciplines in dialogue, a dialogue in which agreement and disagreement are equally productive. Thales + Friends organizes Elective Affinities, a day of such dialogues/debates, starting and ending with mathematics and literature, two topics at the center of the organization’s interests.
Ten practitioners of different disciplines will meet to explore areas of agreement and disagreement in a process that will touch upon many open issues in the study of human society. The conference will begin with the dialogue between mathematics and economics, then move on to political science and history and conclude with the dialogue between the novel and mathematics.
