On the occasion of the celebration of the International Museum Day, which this year has the theme “Museum collections make connections”, the Benaki Museum organizes at the Ghika Gallery “musical tours”.
Five musicians coming from different musical backgrounds will create their own connections with the Museum and its exhibits, leading the tour and presenting to the audience objects or artists exhibited within the gallery. By presenting specific musical pieces or by improvising, the musicians will create a dialog with the museum’s collections, interpreting the thoughts and feelings generated by each exhibit with music, instead of speech, as a guide.
The tour performed by each musician will last approximately 50 minutes, while at the end of each guided tour and for half an hour, visitors will have the opportunity to wander around the Gallery, discovering its unique exhibits for themselves.
During these intervals children, from the age of 5, can follow their own musical routes. By playing, improvising and drawing they can explore the musical trails to be found in the Gallery.
The celebrations will be concluded with a concert, which will connect Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika to the performing musicians and will include interventions by a visual-video artist.
