Bibliophile edition: YANNIS RITSOS “I Sonata tou Selenophotos” (“The Moonlight Sonata”)
THU 25/11/2004
This event will present a rare edition under the artistic direction of painter Manolis Charos. This was begun fifteen years ago, whilst Yannis Ritsos was still alive. The visual arts segment (4 lithographs), as well as the corresponding essays and preliminary outlines, were presented at the centre of Neo-Hellenic studies of the University of Princeton in 1999 and since then have been located in the collections of its Museum.
The book was finally completed in 2003, utilising the same typographic font of the original well-known Kedros Publications edition of the Ritsos poem, in a different format. Produced by painter Manolis Charos, it will circulate in eighty numbered copies, accompanied by four authentic lithographs made by Manolis Charos and etched on stone at the historical Parisian lithography workshop of Clot George & Bramsen. On the day of the event, the hall used for the presentation will be hung with the lithographs, preparatory sketches and painted works created by Manolis Charos from 1991 to 2003 for this edition.
Theodore Georgiou, Doctor of Philosophy; historian Dimitris Arvanitakis; and Manolis Charos, the artist, will talk about the book.
