A special event in honour of Manolis Anagnostakis

The Benaki Museum will organize a special event in honour of Manolis Anagnostakis (born 1925), in recognition of this major contemporary Greek poet.
Anagnostakis’ the double nature, as an important poet and an intellectual, his committed 60-year intellectual presence are expressed in his poetry and his critical writings, his political activities, his systematic occupation with literary and social issues, his tireless promotion of older and contemporary novelists and poets.
This special event will include:
- at 18:00 a showing of Manolis Anagnostakis the film by Lakis Papastathis from the Greek television series “Paraskenio”.
- at 19:00 a round-table discussion led by:
Alexandros Argyriou, critic and philologist of Modern Greek Literature, Angela Kastrinaki, Assistant Professor of Modern Greek Philology at the University of Crete,
Panayiotis Moullas, Emeritus Professor of Modern Greek Philology at the Aristoteleian University of Thessaloniki and
Nassos Vagenas, Professor of the Theory and Criticism of Literature at the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Athens.

Poems will be recited by archaeologist and author Christos Boulotis.

This special event is accompanied by an exhibition of first editions, manuscripts and photographs of Anagnostakis from the archive of Yiorgos Zevelakis, which following the event will be moved to the central building of the Museum at 1, Koumbari Street, where it will remain on display in the entrance hall from April 20th to the end of June 2005.
