MON 24/10/2005
A presentation of the book that supplements the successful catalogue for the Benaki Museum Exhibition “Mother of God. Images of the Theotokos in Byzantine Art”.
A richly illustrated tome with full colour paintings and images in black and white, it contains studies by renowned, respected scientists, as well as younger researchers. Art historians, archaeologists, theologians, philologists and historians approach and attempt to shed some light on the topic of the worship of the Theotokos in the Byzantine world. This book is not solely for those interested in the Byzantine Empire and its civilisation, but also for anybody studying the mediaeval world and its beliefs in general.

The book will be presented by Judith Herrin, Professor of Byzantine Art at King’s College, London.
Prof. Angelos Delivorrias, Director of the Benaki Museum, will talk about the book, as will Maria Vassilaki, Associate Professor of Byzantine Art at the University of Thessalia and the editor of the publication.
