Νικόλαος Μητσάκης 1899-1941 (Nikolaos Mitsakis 1899-1941)

This book is a study of the work of Nikolaos Mitsakis, one of the most important architects of the interwar period, which has been based on his own personal files that are today part of the Neo-Hellenic Architectural Archives of the Benaki Museum, and were donated by his sister, Melpomene Mitsaki. According to the writer, “the archives are fragmentary in nature, without any aspirations to or guarantees of completeness. The presentation of his work follows the instructional logic of distinguishing styles and periods. It should certainly be pointed out that the demarcation of these periods and the classification are products of the writer’s personal viewpoint, with full understanding of the chronological overlapping of the phases and the lack of any absolute time boundaries in Mitsakis’ work.” At the end of the book, his works are catalogued, both those that have been submitted to the Neo-Hellenic Architectural Archives, and those that are in the General State Archives, which are the files of the Technical Services Department of the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs. The book accompanied an exhibition of the works of Nikolaos Mitsakis that was held at the Benaki Museum in 1999.
