Among the multitude of drawings copied by Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas from global art of all periods, those representing themes from ancient Greek art have a special place. In this book, 100 or so such drawings are presented, accompanied by photographs of the original works, so that one can see how Ghikas handled the archaeological material. He made drawings of statues, reliefs, wall paintings, mosaics, pottery and coins, sometimes accurately and at others more freely with the artist’s personal style. At the same time, Ghika’s work is presented more generally, as it was inspired by Greek antiquity and mythology: oil paintings, sculptures, set designs, illustrated books and other creations focused thematically on ancient Greece.
