Χαράλαμπος Σφαέλλος: Αρχιτεκτονική - Ανάπτυξη / Charalambos Sfaellos: Architecture - Development

Architect Charalambos Sfaellos (Alexandria 1914-Athens 2004) was one of the representatives of purebred Greek modernism. His name was associated with the establishment of the Hellenic Tourism Organisation, in which he worked until the 1950s. His architectural records have been placed in the Modern Greek Architecture Archives of the Benaki Museum. The book was published on the occasion of the exhibition of his work in 2002, with a preface by the Museum director, Prof. Angelos Delivorrias. In it, Sfaellos explains the thinking behind the organisation of the exhibition and discusses his architecture. The text is supplemented by drawings and photographs of his constructed designs. A special chapter is devoted to the photographs he took in 15 countries of West Africa between 1969-1971, when he was taking part in the Development Programme of the United Nations. The book includes a detailed biographical note and list of the architect’s works.
