Προσκύνημα στο Σινά. Θησαυροί από την Ιερά Μονή της Αγίας Αικατερίνης Pilgrimage to Sinai: Treasures from the Monastery of St. Catherine s

This is the catalogue from the exhibition of the same name that was held at the Benaki Museum (20 July – 26 September 2004) with works from the Monastery of St Catherine of Sinai. The works date from the 12th to the 15th century and include 37 portable icons, three manuscripts and a sumptuous chalice, a gift from King Charles VI of France to the Monastery. Before being exhibited at the Benaki Museum, the objects were presented at the exhibition held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York entitled “Byzantium, Faith and Power (1261-1557)”. The catalogue entries and the texts by Archbishop Damianos of Sinai have been taken from the original exhibition catalogue. The book also contains two introductory texts that present the history of the Monastery from the 12th to the 15th century (by Anastasia Drandaki) and discuss issues related to the production of the so-called Crusader art of the 13th century (by Titos Papamastorakis). Anastasia Drandaki curated the exhibition and supervised the catalogue.
