A book published to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the death of Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika. In it, the first 25 years of Ghika’s work is investigated (1920-1945), a period that coincides with his apprenticeship in Paris under the great teachers of modernism and his return to Greece, where he applied the teachings of the European avant-garde in conjunction with his own personal style and with conditions in Greece. In the extensive introductory text, Angelos Delivorrias deals with a number of issues touching upon the perception of Ghika’s European career, while authors J.P. De Rycke and N.P. Païsios recreate the tissue of Ghika’s relations with the Paris School. Critical texts by known art critics of the period and as a bibliographical supplement on Ghika’s works complete the book, which has been designed to be used as a catalogue for a future exhibition.
