This application follows the history of Greek culture from antiquity to the early 20th century, through 44 movie clips that are organised into four main periods: “In search of antiquity”, “Continuity and cohesion during the Byzantine centuries”, “Hellenism during the period of foreign rule” and “The path toward the new Greek state”. A multiple search engine makes it possible to find some 1000 objects based on the historical period to which they belong, the types of objects, and the material and technique that characterise them. At the same time, a second search engine provides the public with the ability to investigate where the objects in the Museum originated or were found. Part of this application is dedicated to the history of the Benaki Museum, to the work of its founder and benefactors, as well as to the content of the activities, function and goals of the contemporary Benaki Museum.
