This volume contains the processed form of the thirty-three lectures that were presented to the International Conference on: “Yannis Ritsos: Poet and citizen”, organised by the Benaki Museum, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, from September 28 to October 1, 2005
The central terms of the title (poet and citizen), as well as the Themes of the Conference, which focused the research interests and goals of its organisers ("Yannis Ritsos and the Ancient Greek world”, “Yannis Ritsos and his era”, “The poetics of Yannis Ritsos”, “Yannis Ritsos and the world”), offered distinguished Greek and foreign scholars of Ritsos’s work and Modern Greek literature to develop their problematizations and views, which promote the study of the “Poet of Romiosyni”.
