The Nikos Ploumbidis Family Archive

Nikos Ploumbidis was an emblematic figure for the left in Greece. A member of the Greek Communist Party (KKE), he was active in the party from the time he enrolled in 1925 till his execution in 1954.

Following his execution, his companion Ioulia Papachristou-Ploumbidi, and later his son, Dimitris, collected all publications concerning Nikos Ploumbidis. At the same time they preserved his own records, with evident care so his party could re-establish his good name, when that should be possible.

This material has been entrusted to the Historical Archives of the Benaki Museum. This volume presents the catalogue of the archive, as well as certain biographical information and a wealth of photographic material concerning a man who left an indelible mark on his age and his party.
