Η Αθήνα κατά τη Ρωμαϊκή εποχή. Πρόσφατες ανακαλύψεις, νέες έρευνες / Athens during the Roman period. Recent discoveries, new evidence

This book contains the full texts of all lectures given at the international archaeological symposium that was held at the Benaki Museum from the 19th to the 21st October 2006, on “Athens during the Roman era: recent discoveries, new research”. The purpose of the symposium was to highlight the image of public and private life in Athens during the Roman Era, by presenting new and unpublished findings, as well as recent excavations undertaken Greek and foreign scholars. Furthermore, the object of these proceedings was to investigate the effect of Roman views on local society, by studying the changes that the urban structure of Athens underwent, and developments in the fields of sculpture, pottery and miniature work, as well as the degree to which Greek tradition was restructured under Roman domination, through a detailed presentation of artistic output, architecture and daily life. This volume of proceedings seeks to become a reference point in the study of Athens during the years of Roman antiquity, thus providing a unique opportunity to archaeologists and researchers to be up-to-date with major recent discoveries and new material.
