Σεμινάριο διάσωσης και διαχείρισης φωτογραφικών συλλογών / Seminar on preservation & management of photographic collections

An electronic edition of the five-day training seminar organised by the Benaki Museum Photographic Archives at the Piraios Street Annexe (3-7 October 2005). A bilingual CD-ROM that includes the texts of the seminars and a DVD with laboratory applications, it follows the historical and technological evolution of photography, from the first printing methods (1839) to the production of digital prints forward. Furthermore, the course delves into the factors that affect the preservation of the sensitive photographic material, on the basis of the components of the image and the conditions of storage and exhibition. Distinguished scholars from all over the world attempt a theoretical, historical as well as a practical approach to the issues. The two-hour DVD includes a record of major historical photographs and photographic techniques, including albumin prints, palladiotypes, cyanotypes, photogravure etc. as well as a key to learning to differentiate the various photographic techniques of the 19th and 20th centuries.
