Fulfilling an exhaustive search for archival evidence and bibliography, the book manages to reconstitute the occult and mystical background of Sikelianos’ poetry, as well as the Delphic Festivals of Eva and Aggelos Sikelianos’ lifetime.
The dominant influence of Eva's spiritual and aesthetic pursuits on the young and then on the mature Aggelos Sikelianos is also emphasized. Furthermore, it shows the active involvement of the couple in international circles, whose artistic and political quests included a wide range of interests: occultism and mysticism, free open theater, the revival of ancient Greek drama and modernist artistic trends, the radical social reform movements and the Utopian communities of the interwar period.
A book that deepens and broadens our knowledge of the world of Sikelianos couple and their work, presenting to us two intellectuals who were both active members of some of the most advanced spiritual and social trends of their restless era.
